Presbyterian High, Thursday, March 28th, 2013 — Dunman Secondary edged out Bukit Panjang Government High 2–0 (25–17, 25–21) in a thrilling final match-up of Round 2 in the National B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.

Dunman will now go on to face Presbyterian High in the semi-finals.

It was do-or-die for both teams, with a 2–0 win ensuring a semi-final spot for the victors. Bukit Panjang started well, taking a 10-5 lead. However, Dunman soon caught up at 11-11 and then went on to take the lead to win the set 25–17.

Bukit Panjang came out of the break and established an 11–6 lead. However, they were unable to keep ahead and Dunman put together a string of points to lead 19–14. Dunman’s captain Faith Chan (#7) stood out, especially in the second set, delivering strong spikes which troubled the Bukit Panjang defense.

Bukit Panjang tried to stage a comeback and pulled to within two at 17-19, but it was as far as they could get. Dunman went on to score six unanswered points to win the set 25-17, claiming all three points and catapulting themselves into the semi-finals.

Faith Chan (#7) said: “It was a very exciting match for us today. My team and I were pretty nervous as well because whoever lost today would be knocked out!”

“The highlight of the game for me is our defense. We had a height disadvantage compared to the other team but we still managed to defend well,” she added with a smile.

When asked about their chances to win the title this year, Faith said: “I won’t say we have a very high chance. Nonetheless, we will still try our very best. We managed to get into the top eight last year and so we will try to get into the top four this year.”

Both Dunman and Nanyang Girls’ High finished tied with six points each at the top of their group. However, due to point difference, Nanyang Girls’ took the top spot and Dunman settled for second.

Nanyang Girls’ High will play Ngee Ann Secondary in one semi-final while Dunman will play against Presbyterian High in the other.
