Thursday, February 21, 2013 – Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary upset St Margaret’s Secondary when they fought back from a five-goal deficit in the first quarter to win 24-22 in Round 2 of the South Zone Netball B Division Championship.

The match was crucial for both teams in their journey to the semi-finals.

Both teams played to their advantages as St Margaret’s attacked with finesse and speed while Kuo Chuan Presbyterian relied heavily on their strong defence.

Bouncing back from an unsatisfactory first quarter, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian came back strong to lead 13-11 at the end of the second.

It was ball for ball from the start of the third quarter as St Margaret’s tried to outscore their opponents to regain their lead. However, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian were able to maintain a two-goal lead to clinch the win.

Kuo Chuan consequently made it to the semi-final when they beat Crescent Girls’ School 23-12, the first time a netball team from their school has made it into the top four of the South Zone.

Meanwhile, the only way for St Margaret’s to qualify for the semi-final was for them to beat CHIJ Toa Payoh. However, they lost 24-35 to a CHIJ that played a confident game with a tight, man-to-man defence.

CHIJ Toa Payoh finished top of Group Y, with Kuo Chuan Presbyterian coming in second.
