Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, March 4, 2013 – North Vista Secondary took one step closer to their goal of being zonal champions when they beat Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary 53-37 in the semi-finals of the North Zone B Division Basketball Girls’ Championship.
Ahmad Ibrahim led 15-12 after the first quarter but the scoring slowed in the second as both teams struggled to score.
Ahmad Ibrahim, relying on their captain, Tan Ke Ning (#11), for her speed and dribbling skills, increased their lead to 23-19 at half time.
North Vista played a steady game and took control of the game’s pace. Their efforts and patience paid off as they levelled at 23-23 in the second minute of the third quarter.
They soon outscored Ahmad Ibrahim and with three minutes left in the third, led 29-27. Both teams tried to pull away by attempting 3-pointers but it was North Vista who were successful as they pulled ahead 37-27 by the end of the third quarter.
Jolene Ng (#9) of North Vista was an asset to her team as she maneuvered skilfully through her opponents to make her shots count. With minutes left in the final quarter, one of North Vista’s top scorers, Shirley Long (#13), had to substituted out due to an ankle injury sustained mid-game. Yet, North Vista remained undeterred and went on to finish the game, 53-37.
Cheng Xin Yi (#7), captain of North Vista, felt that her team had played a good game.
“We have been improving and today, we played the way we’ve practiced and I’m satisfied with that,” Xin Yi said.
Added Xin Yi: “We will prepare ourselves for the final match and we will accept whatever challenges our opponents put up.”
North Vista will be playing against Deyi Secondary in the final on Monday, March 11th, 1pm, at the Singapore Basketball Centre.
