Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, February 27, 2013 – Yishun Secondary defeated Woodlands Ring Secondary 63-54 to win their final game in Round 2 of the North Zone B Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
Yishun finished Round 2 with a 3-2 win-loss record while Woodlands Ring were fifth in the six-team league with a 1-4 record. Both did not qualify for the semi-finals.
Both teams were close in the first quarter but it was a last-minute 2-pointer which gave Yishun a four-point lead 16-12 over Woodlands Ring to end the quarter.
The second quarter saw a patient Woodlands Ring keep possession of the ball, continually passing amongst themselves while they waited for opportune moments to take shots. Their patience paid off as they took a slim 33-30 lead into half time.
Despite Yishun’s efforts to stop Woodlands Ring, the latter kept their cool and continued on improving their play to end the third quarter with a mere one-point 43-42 lead.
However, Yishun were relentless in the fourth quarter, upping the intensity of the game. Yishun finally took the lead with four minutes left and went on to win 63-54.
At the final buzzer went, it also signalled the end of the season for both teams. It had been a close fight for them and both teams showed sportsmanship by giving it their all despite knowing that this was their last match.
Teng Jia Jie (#4), captain of Woodlands Ring, felt that his team has done pretty well as compared to their previous games.
“We’ve tried our best and overall, we’ve had a good season,” added Jia Jie.
