PESEB, Thursday, July 12, 2012 — Catholic High thrashed a helpless Gan Eng Seng School 77-15 in their second game of the South Zone C Division Basketball Championship Round 2.

Catholic High had already beaten Fairfield Methodist School 74-27 in their opening Round 2 game and look favourites to retain their South Zone C Division crown. This was Gan Eng Seng’s second loss after losing 33-52 to Guangyang Secondary.

The depth of Catholic High’s squad was shown when three different Catholic High players scored within the first minute of play. Even though Catholic High’s Toh Tze Cong (#15) scored a massive 43 points against ACS (Barker) in their last group game, he was hardly ever present in the attack most of the time and preferred to use his height to aid in his team’s defense, blocking many of Gan Eng Seng’s attempted shots.

Tze Cong still finished the match as top scorer with a game-high of 14 points while Gan Eng Seng’s Captain, Tan Qi Shun (#9), was his team’s top scorer with seven.

Gan Eng Seng could not get through Catholic High’s tight defence which left them with zero points at the end of the first quarter. Gan Eng Seng’s hesitancy also gave Catholic High the chance to intercept the ball and convert.

Gan Eng Seng’s Captain, Tan Qi Shun (#9), said that his team needs to improve on their defence and teamwork in order to show a better performance in their next few games. They face Fairfield Methodist next on Monday, July 16th.

Warren Wong (#12), the captain of Catholic High, was proud of his team’s performance and hopes to be the top at the end of this championship. Their next match is against Queensway Secondary on Monday, July 16th, 2012.
