PESEB, Thursday, July 10, 2012 — Peicai Secondary started off Round 2 on a winning note, beating Peirce Secondary 63-44 in the South Zone C Division Basketball Championship.
Peirce fall to 1-1 win-loss record. They had won their first Round 2 game against Serangoon Gardens 33-29.
Peicai’s Alden Toh (#8) finished the match as top scorer with 16 points and his team-mate, Darren Ng (#13), was not far behind with 15. Edmund Wong (#7) was top scorer for Peirce with 11 points.
Peicai started the scoring within seconds of the tip-up, but Peirce quickly returned the favour with a basket. This was the closest the score Peirce got as Peicai started to pull away.
Peirce struggled to get near the basket and their inability to score from long range meant that their score remained stagnant at two points for most of the first quarter. Peirce found the scoreboard again only after their captain, Julian Wang (#6), was substituted and Edmund Wong (#7) came on, who boosted the attack with his speed and agility.
Peicai boasted an all-rounded team and did not really have a main player that they depended on. Their high accuracy helped them gain an edge over Peirce to win the game 63-44.
Peirce captain Julian Wang was disappointed with his team’s loss because they were not playing up to standard.
“We did not convert out baskets and did not get many rebounds”, he said.
Peirce hope to redeem themselves when they face St. Andrew’s Secondary on Wednesday, July 18th. Peicai’s next game is against Serangoon Garden Secondary on the same day.
