Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, 9 July 2012 – Fuchun Secondary beat Serangoon Secondary 28-19 in their final first round group game of the North Zone C Division Basketball Championship.
Despite their victory, Fuchun are unable to advance to the second round. Their 2-2 win-loss record was only good enough for third place in Group A. Serangoon, with a 1-3 record, finished fourth while Woodlands Secondary (0-4) were last.
Fuchun’s Jonathan Kong (#11) was the game’s top scorer with 11 points, while Raymond Low (#4) and Jonathan Ser (#6) were Serangoon’s top scorers, with 4 points apiece.
Both teams started off strong in the first quarter, but seemed to be equally matched. However, clumsy passing by Serangoon allowed Fuchun to gain possession of the ball. This allowed Fuchun to go ahead in the second quarter and lead 16-12 at half time.
Wild attempts by both teams in the third quarter saw a slew of missed baskets. Yet, Fuchun managed to come back from their slump to score a series of 2-pointers in the last quarter to secure their victory.
Asked about the match, Fuchun’s Owen Soh Yong Jun (#7) said that he had fun playing.
“However, the other team was quite rough,” Owen said. Owen had been injured during the game, but appeared to still be rather cheerful and unfazed by his injury.
“We improved a lot on our teamwork. We now pass more to each other. We used to just go for our own ball and not think of each other. But we still need to work on our teamwork. We haven’t improved that much yet,” added Owen.
