Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, July 6, 2012 – Unity Secondary defeated Hong Kah Secondary 91-4 to maintain their unbeaten run in the West Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.

In putting together their perfect 4-0 win-loss record, Unity have not scored less than 90 points per game, and have only let in a total of 32 points over the four games.

Despite the huge score difference, Unity were still not at their best against Hong Kah, missing some simple lay-ups and making errant passes.

Hong Kah managed to stifle Unity’s attack, restricting them to only two points in the last five minutes of the second quarter.

Even though Hong Kah were never in the game from the beginning, they never lost their spirit, with the bench constantly encouraging their teammates.

Unity finally found their stride in the last quarter to sink 43 points to beat a spirited Hong Kah side 91-4.

Unity’s Thng Yong An (#5) was a constant threat with his piercing runs through the Hong Kah defence and his lay-ups. He emerged with a game-high 23 points, which includes one three-pointer.

Unity came away with a crushing win but Unity’s Foo Jun Lin (#10) said: “We did not play well. We could have improved on our defence and we need to get stronger.”

When asked about the team’s hopes for the second round, Jun Lin’s said: “Win all matches and make it to the final.”

Meanwhile, Hong Kah’s captain Cliff Mak (#15) was happy with how the team managed to hold off Unity despite the loss.

“We played well. Against Westwood and Pioneer, our defence was not strong, but against Unity, we managed to stop them from getting more than 100 points,” said Cliff.

While Unity have already finished all their round one matches and will have to wait to see who they are facing in the next round, Hong Kah still have one more game to go against Chestnut Drive in a bottom-of-the-table clash. The game will be held on Tuesday, July 10th, at Clementi Sports Hall, as will the draw for the second round.
