Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, July 6, 2012 — Juying Secondary failed to pick up any points in their 94-0 loss to Jurong Secondary in the first round of the West Zone C Division Basketball Championship. This win puts Jurong on top of Group C, having won all of their three matches, while this is the third straight defeat for Juying.
While the Juying players failed to get on the scoreboard, every single one of Jurong’s players scored at least two points for their team. Playing against arguably their weakest opponents, Jurong managed to play their whole team, rotating between two distinct groups every quarter.
It was unfortunate for Juying that they could not match Jurong in terms of height. Juying’s defenders could barely challenge Jurong’s players when it came to rebounds and had their vision completely blocked whenever an opponent raised his arms.
Simeon (Jurong #4) was shorter than everyone else on court but he managed to successfully block many throw-ins by Juying.
Despite being challenged in so many ways, Juying kept up a relentless attack, but the lack of accuracy was their downfall.
Jurong’s captain, Mao Yu Xian (#14), was happy with the result and thought his team played well. He considers Unity Secondary their main rival to take the Championship trophy and says that his team needs to work on their passing in order to beat the defending West Zone and National champions.
Jurong play Hua Yi Secondary in their next match on Tuesday, July 10th, while Juying hopes to gain a win when they meet Greenridge Secondary on the same day.
