PESEB, Friday, July 6, 2012 — Bukit Panjang Government High put themselves in good stead to qualify for the semi-finals of the West Zone C Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship when they defeated River Valley High 2-0 (25-14, 25-11) in their Round Two, Group Q match.

Bukit Panjang dominated the match, scoring a total of 28 points from 16 kills, one block and 11 service aces. River Valley on the other hand managed seven points from five kills and two service aces.

Bukit Panjang stormed ahead early in the first set as they pulled ahead to lead 8-3. Bukit Panjang were pressuring River Valley with their serves and prompted River Valley to call a timeout at this point.

However, Xinghuan (Bukit Panjang #7) scored three consecutive service aces upon the resumption of play for her team to continue widening the score gap.

Bukit Panjang maintained their decisive lead over River Valley, and despite service errors towards the end of the set, they held on to win 25-14.

Bukit Panjang continued their dominance in the second set as they raced to lead 17-6. River Valley had trouble returning Bukit Panjang’s attacks and were eventually trailing 9-23 when they called a timeout.

At this point, River Valley made their first kill of the second set before doubling that number with a drop shot from their setter.

Xinghuan (Bukit Panjang #7) made sure River Valley did not score any more points when she took match point after forcing a touchout from her opponent. Bukit Panjang sealed the match after a strong serve by them was deflected out of bounds by River Valley.

Bukit Panjang will next play Jurong Secondary on Tuesday, July 10. Should they win the match, they will qualify for the semi-finals on top of the group. River Valley will play Jurong on Wednesday, July 11.
