Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, June 29, 2012 — Westwood Secondary overcame fatigue to beat Hong Kah 35-16, in the process claiming their second consecutive win of the season.
This was Hong Kah’s first match in the West Zone C Division Basketball Championship.
Westwood had a strong showing in the first two quarters, leading their opponents 24-7 by half-time. Strong partnership between Westwood’s Captain Brandon Law (#12) and team-mate, Ng Wei Hong (#11), saw them both end up as the game’s top-scorers, putting in a total of 18 points and 10 points respectively.
The Hong Kah defence did not seem to be able to stop Brandon Law, who dictated the pace of the match and ran rings around his defenders. His presence was sorely missed on court when he was substituted early in the fourth quarter because of an ankle injury. In that quarter, Westwood could only muster up four points, as many as their opponents put in.
Westwood also showed signs of fatigue towards to the end with their reduced speed of play and their players bending over often to catch a breath. Brandon Law agreed that the team needed to work on their stamina and teamwork when they next face defending national champions, Unity Secondary, on Wednesday, July 4th, who have already crushed two schools.
Hong Kah will face Pioneer Secondary, who have also lost once, on Wednesday, July 4th.
