PESEB, Thursday, June 28, 2012 — Peirce Secondary earned their first win in the South Zone C Division Basketball Championship when they beat Queenstown Secondary 28-21. They had lost their first game of the season 41-52 to Gan Eng Seng School earlier in the week.

For Queenstown, this was their first defeat after beating Yuying Secondary 47-30.

Edmund Wong (#7) of Peirce finished with a game-high 13 points while Nolgene (#7) was top-scorer for Queenstown with 12.

Peirce and Queenstown seemed to be on equal footing as they finished a low-scoring first quarter tied 2-2. Both teams engaged in fast-paced play but were too hesitant to get close to the hoop and never converted their chances. It took four minutes before Peirce opened the scoring with a free throw.

Peirce surged ahead in the second quarter, using their height advantage to score mainly from rebounds, widening the gap between them and their rivals with a half time score of 13-6.

Peirce captain, Julian Wang (#6), said: “My team played alright today, but we could have done better.”

Peirce will hope to be on their best form against Mayflower Secondary in the their next match on Friday, June 29, while Queenstown face Gan Eng Seng on the same day.
