Kallang Netball Centre, Monday, January 30, 2012 — Holy Innocents’ High, Outram Secondary and Serangoon Garden Secondary won their first games in the South Zone B Division Netball Championship.
Holy Innocents’ High played out an exciting game with Guangyang Secondary on Court 5. Both sides made mistakes but Holy Innocents’ High managed to create enough turnovers and calm their nerves to win the game 18-14.
Outram kept Bukit Merah Secondary at bay with a 40-7 scoreline while Sernagoon Gardens beat Peirce Secondary 33-9.
Kuo Chuan Presbyterian beat Chong Boon Secondary 21-10 in a close game. Chong Boon and Kuo Chuan Presbyterian were neck and neck with KCP having a one-goal advantage at half time. Kuo Chuan managed to create a seven-point lead in the third quarter which helped to set them up for the win in the last quarter.
In other games, Fairfield beat CHIJ St Theresa’s Convent 35-7 while Crescent Girls’ beat Bishan Park Secondary 29-12.
St Margaret’s Secondary continued their winning streak against Bendemeer Secondary with a 45-8 win.
Buzz surrounded Court 4 as CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) beat SCGS 31-15. SCGS had created a three-way tie in 2011 during the South Zone second round with CHIJ and RGS.
SCGS failed to deliver in the 1st quarter and CHIJ took a 10-point, 12-2 lead. SCGS made some changes in the line up which helped to reduce their deficit in the subsequent quarters. However, CHIJ’s perfect rhythm and timing in their attacking made it almost impossible to create enough turnovers to have any chance of an SCGS comeback.
