Presbyterian High, Friday, April 1, 2011 — Fairfield Methodist beat Ngee Ann Secondary 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20) to set up a showdown with Jurong Secondary at the National B Division Girls Championship final.

Ngee Ann started the set by taking the first two points, but from then on, Fairfield led all the way to finish to seal the set. Unforced errors in the Ngee Ann team allowed Fairfield to earn several valuable points. Jermaine Tan (Fairfield #16) led the scoring for her team with eight kills and one service ace in the first set. Wang Qi Hui (Ngee Ann #6) had a similar number of kills, but five unforced errors and one service error from her reduced her scoring percentage.

The start of the second set was a much closer affair as Ngee Ann fought hard to keep the score closed. However after the 12-12 mark, Fairfield never looked back as they stormed ahead to extend their lead. Fairfield were at set point after Jastala Tan (Ngee Ann #5) saw her spike find the Fairfield block. Fairfield then took home the set after stuffing out a spike by Peh Qianhui (Ngee Ann #17). Despite Ngee Ann being able to put up more kills than Fairfield, they outnumbered their opponents in terms of unforced errors. Their centre spikers particularly found trouble in making their mark as they were plagued with unforced errors throughout the set.

In the third set, Ngee Ann regained their footing as they started giving Fairfield a run for their money. The match was a very close one with the scores tied at several points. Fairfield had an initial lead, but Ngee Ann turned the tables on them to lead 7-6. The match continued with both teams neck and neck with Fairfield holding on to the advantage. At the 18-18 mark, Fairfield pulled ahead to eventually take match point. They then sealed the match after a service ace by their #13.

Ngee Ann had certainly put up several more kills than Fairfield, but the large number of unforced errors from their side undid their effort. For this match, Ngee Ann made a total of 45 unforced errors while Fairfield limited themselves to only 16 errors. With Fairfield putting up a combined total of 24 kills compared to top scorer Qi Hui’s (Ngee Ann #6) 22 kills, their consistency was enough for them to secure the match.

Final score
Fairfield 3 Ngee Ann 0
25-20, 25-16, 25-20
