Presbyterian High, Tuesday, March 8, 2011 — Shuqun Secondary have emerged top of Group A after thrashing Anderson Secondary 2-0 (25-13, 25-11) in their final group match at the National B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship. Anderson on the other hand, finish second in the group and will also proceed to Round Two.

Shuqun were in control right from the start as they ran off with the lead. Despite Anderson managing to come close in the early part of the set, Shuqun refused to let Anderson come any closer as they stormed off to establish a massive lead. Shuqun piled on the pressure with their strong spikes and steady serves, Anderson on the other hand, found trouble with their first balls and could not organise well enough to make a significant dent in Shuqun’s defences.

Soon, Shuqun found themselves leading 23-9. Despite a subsequent three-point streak from Anderson, Shuqun found themselves back in control of the game after the Anderson #16’s serve went out of bounds. Anderson managed to hold off Shuqun for one more point when their spike was deflected out of bounds by Shuqun libero Wanjing, but Gabrielle Louise (Shuqun #10) quickly finished off the match with her well placed drop shot to an empty spot.

Shuqun continued their dominance in the second set as they blitzed off to a 7-0 lead. Despite Anderson managing to close the score gap, Shuqun held on to their advantage to pull ahead. Anderson continued to be troubled by Shuqun’s attacks and fell behind in the second half as their opponents ran off to eventually lead 24-11. Shuqun then took home the last point after Cally (Shuqun #1) successfully blocked the Anderson #8’s spike which was returned by Anderson.
