Republic Polytechnic, Monday, March 7, 2011 – Catholic High’s Crenshawn Lim put on his best performance so far in the National B Division Floorball Championship with a hat-trick of goals to help his team edge out Victoria School 3-2. With the win, Catholic High topped the round 3 group with Victoria School coming in second place.
The game started at a frenetic pace with its fair share of physical play, with the high stakes involved in the game. Catholic High drew first blood with Crenshawn executing a back flip with his stick to score the opening goal towards the end of the first period.
Crenshawn then added another goal in the second period before Victoria School replied with one of their own to make the score 2-1. However, Crewnshawn completed his hattrick at the end of the second period to help Catholic High to a comfortable 3-1 lead.
The third period saw both teams coming close but failing to find the net until Victoria’s #27 scored with 2:30 left on the clock to close the gap to 2-3.
Victoria’s coach Amir then threw caution to the wind by fielding five outfield players in the final minutes of the game to grab the crucial equaliser. The unusual move failed to pay dividends and Victoria was fortunate not to concede another goal as Catholic High’s goalkeeper almost scored with a long throw but a Victoria School defender threw his stick and managed to prevent the ball from crossing his team’s goalline!
Yet Ryan Cheng from Catholic High was modest in victory, highlighting the similarity in standards of both teams.
“We were very lucky to have held on for a win. There were a few shots by them (Victoria School) that hit the post!” said Ryan.
The reward for Catholic High’s win is a match against Northland Secondary in the semi-finals. Northland fought back strongly in their match against Bukit Merah to draw 8-8, but were consigned to second place in their group due to goal difference.
Defending champions Bukit Merah will play Victoria School in the other semi-final match. Both matches will take place at Republic Polytechnic on Wednesday, March 9.

Although CH qualifies for the final first time however bear in mind that the whole of their first line plays for Singapore u-19
May I ask, what is that supposed to imply?
To me, doesn’t the fact that “the whole of their first line plays for Singapore u-19” prove how much they’ve improved during the past 1 or 2 years? And if they have improved to such an extent, isn’t that a good thing which deserves a corresponding reward?

I think it will be touch-and-go. Both teams are evenly matched.
I wanted a VS / BMS Finals because good to see power houses play. If not a VS/BMS V Northland, another 2/3 pedigree teams. Looks like CHS afraid to play BMS as they lost to them before.

So VS, BMS n NS are considered powerhouses, and CHS is not?
Yes, CH just in the top 4 for the first time. Past 5-6 Finals has been BMS V NSS and BMS v VS

Bec the past finals were always between BMS v NSS and BMS v VS. CHS not onlt the first final but first top 4. Qualify more often before u are a powerhouse.

Yes CHS lost to BMS but were second in their groupings. And yes thanks to CHS there will not be a ‘three peat ‘ final between VS and BMS.
So how come they can be in the Semi-Finals? I think Bukit Merah / Victoria Final will be great between two very polished team. A three peat final also since 2008. I thought the best chance for VS to avenge their 2 losses in the finals of 2009 and 2010. But I guess one has to go out now.
I thought Bukit Merah beat Catholic High 4-1.

I’m not sure if Northbrooks are “very strong”, because although they did manage to beat Bedok South 5-3 yesterday in their last match of this third-round group stage, they still got thrashed 2-7 by Catholic High School and 2-11 by Victoria School in their 2 other group matches.
But if you meant Northland, then according to the report which I presume you read before commenting:

So I presume Bukit Merah should be very strong too, since they are the defending champions and one of the 4 semi-finalists.
I am so sorry. I mixed up Northland and Northbrooks.

I’ve just finished watching the videos (thanks very much for uploading them!), and I noticed that Crenshawn’s opening goal was scored with only a few seconds left in the first period; he then scored the opening goal of the second period, before Victoria School managed to score their first goal about 5 minutes before the end of the same period; and with about a minute left in the second period, Crenshawn completed his hat trick, after an assist from Joshua Lee, who had just managed to intercept a pass from a Victoria School player (at around 15:12 in the second video).
So my point is that the score was never “level at 1-1 at the end of the first period” nor at any other point in time before the end of the second period.
