Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 — Punggol Secondary finished their last game of the group stages with a 25-10, 25-18 win over West Spring Secondary in the boys’ U13 Junior Volleyball Championship.

Punggol had a good start, leading 7-1 but West Spring slowly clawed back points and trailed by three at 8-5. Unfortunately, some spiking and first ball errors by West Spring Secondary saw Punggol lead 14-9 halfway through.

A timeout was called by West Spring Secondary but that did not stop Punggol’s strong attacking line, especially Punggol’s #17, qho scored a number of points with his spiking.

The West Spring #11 saved some good spikes and drop balls but Punggol eventually won the first set 25-10.

The second set again saw Punggol Secondary lead 5-2 at the start. But some errors by Punggol saw the score leveled at 5-5. Nevertheless, Punggol got back on their feet and slowly held a lead of 14-10.

Punggol continued to dominate and stretch the lead to 20-12, forcing West Spring into another timeout.

Upon resumption, a thunderous spike by West Spring’s #17 and good spikes and drop balls from West Spring’s #11, #13 and #18 reduced the Punggol’s lead to 22-18. However, another good spike from Punggol’s #17 and defensive errors made by West Spring saw Punggol push ahead to 24-18.

The game ended with a spike out by West Spring’s #18. With this win, Punggol finished second in the group having beaten all teams except for St Hilda’s Secondary. St Hilda’s finished in first place.

The quarter-finals of the U13 volleyball championship will start on Friday, November 26th.
