Co-Curricular Activities Branch, Friday, July 30, 2010 — Defending champions Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) beat St Andrew’s Secondary 15-12 in their C Division Rugby Championship semi-final.

ACS(I), who have won the C Division title 13 years in a row, will now play Raffles Institution in the final.

Scrums and line-outs marked the first 10 minutes of the match until Joshua Chan (ACS(I) #10) converted a penalty successfully for a 3-0 lead.

Daniel Goh (ACS(I) #3) and Joshua Chan (ACS(I) #10) then scored a try and a successful conversion respectively to extend the lead to 10-0.

The Saints replied with a try from Justin Teo minutes later but Kelvin Yau (St Andrew’s #7) missed the conversion.

With ACS(I) leading 10-5 at the start of the second half, Wilson Chan (St Andrew’s #11) pocketed five points with a try. Kelvin (#7) made a successful conversion and the Saints led for the first time at 12-10.

The Saints hung onto their lead but their resistance broke with seven minutes to go when Evandy (ACS(I) #8) broke through the defence and scored the winning try to seal the game 15-12.

ACS(I)’s Joshua Chan believed that his team did really well and credited it to the forwards who made the game work to their advantage.

On his opponents, Joshua said: “They were very worthy opponents, they played to the best of their ability and I have to admit, their kicks were really good.”

As for the final, Joshua commented that the team will make a comeback against Raffles despite having lost 17-12 to their rivals earlier in the second round.

ACS(I) will take on RI in the final on Thursday, August 5th, 4.15pm, at CCAB.

The Saints will play ACS (Barker Road) for third on Tuesday, August 2nd, 4.15pm, at CCAB.
