CCAB, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 – Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) beat West View Primary 14-12 to capture their first National U-13 Rugby Championship title.

ACS(P) had beaten St Andrew’s Junior School 7-0 in one semi-final through a Joshua Goh try while West View had overcome Gongshang Primary 28-14 in the other to set up the final clash.

The final was played over two 10-minute halves and ACS(P) started well, caping in West View territory for most of the first half.

ACS(P) had a try disallowed and against the run of play, the West View stand-off did a wonderful side-step in the middle of the pitch to evade the ACS(P) opponents to take off for an untouched try and a 7-0 lead.

ACS(P) came back strongly and off a penalty move, co-captain Daniel Lee off-loaded for Sandy Seow to score down the right to leave both teams tied 7-7 at the half.

ACS(P) continued to pin West View back in the second half but West View always looked dangerous with their quick breakaways. Midway through the half, ACS(P) took the lead with Emrick Quah finishing off a nice backline move to give ACS(P) a 14-7 lead.

The West View team came back strongly and in the last play of the match (the horn had already sounded), off a penalty, their forwards bulldozed over for a try to trail only by two at 12-14.

Needing to convert the try to push the game into extra-time, West View failed to do so, yielding the title to ACS(P) by a score of 14-12.

Given the recent fight after the ACS(I) and Saints B Division final, both the ACS(P) and SAJS teams got together after their semi-final match, during the intermission before the final and 3rd/4th placing games to hear both school principals give words of encouragement which was ended with a common prayer session.

In the 3rd/4th placing game, Gongshang beat SAJS 14-7 with a last-minute try.
