Singapore Sports School, Tuesday, April 27, 2010 – Having already smashed the A Division 200m backstroke meet record earlier in the day, Rainer Ng from Raffles Institution returned in the evening to lead his team to a new meet record in the 4x50m A Division boys medley relay with a timing of 1 min 46.31 seconds.

His stellar performance reflected RI’s dominance on the first day of the swimming championship finals, with the Bishan-based school leading in both the A Division girls’ and boys’ categories by at least 50 points.

Things are quite different for the younger members of the Raffles family with the B and C Division RI boys finding themselves in a neck-and-neck race with Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). They lead ACS(I) by 2 points in the B Division and and trail ACS(I) by 55 points in the C Division.

Singapore Sports School staged a spectacular comeback in the boys C Division category this year and currently occupy second position with 89 points.

There were also some gems among the other competing schools besides the usual powerhouses. Most notable was Outram Secondary’s Ren Guan Ji, who out-swam his rivals for the B Division 200m individual medley gold and lowered the meet record in the process as well. His timing of 2 min 10.52 seconds was an improvement of two seconds over the earlier record, which was also set by him in the heats this year.
