CCAB, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 – Victoria School produced a vintage display of attacking moves to edge out Catholic High School 25-22, 25-16 in a must-win game for both sides in the National C Division Boys Volleyball Championship.

Both Victoria School and Catholic High School had geared up for the final group game with a win and a loss each, and the result of the game had a direct bearing on either team’s advance into the final four.

In a school more known for their prowess in cross-country and track and field, Victoria School showed their versatility with their boys storming to a 7-2 lead in the first set before the Catholic High bench calling for a hasty timeout.

The timeout worked wonders as Catholic High clawed back to tie at 10-10 and subsequently took a two-point lead for most part of the game. The Catholic High frontline defenders did well to block the spikes of the Victoria attackers to rack up the points for the team in white.

Yet Victoria School managed to regroup and played with greater composure to edge ahead towards the end of the first game to crucially clinch the first set 25-22.

The second set mirrored the first as Victoria streaked ahead to a 9-3 lead. This time, the Catholic High players had no answer even though they valiantly attempted to close the gap. Victoria cruised to a 25-16 win as a result, with the difference between the two sides being Victoria showing more purpose and proving successful in their attacking plays.

Victoria will next take on Dunman Sec in the semi-final while Xinmin Sec will meet St Hilda’s Sec in the other C division boy’s semi-final. Both matches will take place at CCAB next Tuesday 6 April at 3pm and 1.30pm respectively.
