Three out of the four netball powerhouses failed to finish top of their groups in the West Zone B Division Netball Championship.

Instead, dark horses Kranji Secondary, Clementi Town Secondary and Bukit Panjang Government High put on outstanding performances to edge out the powerhouses to finish top of their respective groups.

In a top-of-the-group clash, Bukit Panjang Government High, who had an 11-point lead at one point during the game, managed to stop National first runners-up Nanyang Girls' High from taking the game, despite a dominating performance by their opponents in the fourth quarter. Bukit Panjang Government High wrapped up the game 30-26 to finish top of Group A while Nanyang Girls' High finished first runners-up to them.

In Group B, Nan Hua High saw no school coming close enough to be a threat to them, keeping all their opponents, except for Jurong West Secondary, to below 10 points. Nan Hua beat Jurong West 38-15.

Nan Hua trounced Hong Kah Secondary (58-6) and Pioneer Secondary (49-7) and also beat Dunearn Secondary (60-1) and Regent Secondary (32-7) to finish top of their group.

In the deciding match, Regent narrowly beat Jurong West 17-16 to finish in second place.

In Group C, Clementi Town Secondary, who ended their campaign early lat year after losing to River Valley High in the first round, came back stronger this year to beat River Valley 26-23 to finish top of the group. In the deciding match, River Valley beat West Spring Secondary 36-10 to qualify for the second round in second place.

In Group D, Kranji Secondary upset Methodist Girls' School 22-16 to qualify for the second round as the group winner. In the deciding matches, MGS had a comfortable 33-6 victory over Commonwealth Secondary to finish second in the group.
