River Valley High School, Thursday, January 28, 2009 – After two losses, Yuan Ching Secondary are on the verge of ending their campaign early in the B Division West Zone Netball Champoinship.

After losing to Nanyang Girls’ High in their opening match in Group A, Yuan Ching Secondary lost to Bukit Panjang High School 13-22. Yuan Ching Secondary can only qualify for the second round if Hillgrove Secondary, Unity Secondary or Bukit Batok Secondary beat either Bukit Panjang Government High or Nanyang Girls’ High by at least 10 points.

In Group B, Regent Secondary edged out Jurong West Secondary 17-16 to qualify for the second round. Regent Secondary had earlier beaten Pioneer Secondary 18-13. However, Regent Secondary will only qualify as the first runners-up as they have previously lost to Nan Hua High 7-32.

In Group C, Clementi Town Secondary beat arch-rivals River Valley High 26-23 and thrashed Tanglin Secondary 29-7, giving them a good chance to qualify as the leader of their group. In other Group C matches, dark horses NUS High School trounced Chua Chu Kang Secondary 36-2 and beat Zhenghua Secondary 18-7.

In Group D, dark horses Kranji Secondary cruised past Commonwealth Secondary 23-16 and handed Westwood Secondary a 22-11 defeat. Kranji Secondary also toppled Yusof Ishak Secondary 47-20. Kranji will now contend with Methodist Girls’ School for the top position of the group. MGS thrashed Juying Secondary, Yusof Ishak and Westwood 52-2, 39-13 and 32-9 respectively in their group games.
