His name is Samuel Kang.

He is a straight As student who previously studied in Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and Raffles Junior College. Just turned 19 less than a month ago, he is currently serving his NS with the police force.

Considering that he just took up the game when he joined ACS(I) for his secondary education, it is truly amazing how far he has come. Battling all odds through sheer determination, dedication and discipline, Samuel has done Singapore proud with a string of stirring performances on the international scene.

Last August, he beat numerous top Malaysian juniors to capture the SportExcel Circuit Grand Final u19 title in KL.
Two months later, he overcame a host of top Aussie juniors to become the first Singaporean to win the prestigious Australian Junior Open Under-19 event.

Then, last month, playing under unfamiliar freezing conditions, he finished 3rd in the Canadian Junior Open and was placed top-8 in the US Junior Open.

In recognition of his achievements, it is rumoured that the Singapore Squash Racket Association has decided to nominate this deserving bright young man for the Sport Boy of the Year award.

Honestly, I can't recall the last time when squash had a nomination for this prestigious award. Hence this nomination speaks volume of the talents and efforts of this young lad.

Without a doubt, regardless of the nomination results, his parents, who funded most of his training and competition expenditures will be very proud of Samuel. Watch this page for the confirmation of his nomination.
