Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall, Wednesday, May 13, 2009 - Victoria Junior College outdid last year's A Division Girls’ Floorball runners-up Yishun Junior College in a comfortable 8-2 win that saw them qualify for next week’s final.

YJC won the face-off at the opening whistle, but although #9 had possession, she was pressured by VJ’s #11 who skillfully stole the ball from her and took a quick wrist shot into the top corner of the YJC goal, with the keeper not reacting quickly enough to prevent the goal. Within 8 seconds, VJC had gained a one-goal advantage.

VJC continued on the offensive, with #21 Veronica passing to #12 Josephine in the slot area. Her shot was blocked, but she quickly responded with a well-timed volley that unfortunately went off-target.

YJ’s #16 had an opportunity to equalize when she intercepted a pass between the VJ defenders. The ball bounced but she missed it completely when she attempted a volley. She then regained control of the ball and took a shot that went off-target.

VJC then scored their second goal when their captain #20 Therese took a superb drag shot from half-court right into the top corner of YJ's goal in the 6th minute.

VJC won the face-off and when #16 Harilyn found the ball in YJ's corner, she passed it to #7 who tapped a grounder into goal. Within a 6-minute span, VJC had already scored 3 goals.

Shortly after, YJC were awarded a free hit. A bad pass saw VJ’s #10 intercept the ball and almost have a one-on-one situation with YJ's keeper. Fortunately for them, #13 Jocelyn managed to stop her in the nick of time.

YJC were rewarded for their efforts when from another free hit, #7 Stephanie passed to #13 Jocelyn for a grounder into VJ's bottom left corner in the 9th minute.

But VJC extended their lead less than 2 minutes later when #7 won the ball from a bad YJ pass down the board. She took a crisp wrist shot to score VJC's 4th goal.

YJ's Jocelyn showed good skill when she deftly out-dribbled 2 VJ players behind their goal post. However, she lost the ball and could not take a shot.

VJ's superior goal difference was further strengthened when Harilyn passed the ball to #4 Felicia for a one-on-one with YJ's keeper. She found an opening under the keeper's leg to nail VJ's fifth goal.

YJ had a chance to reduce the deficit when #3 Ee Shan passed to #7 Stephanie in VJ's slot area. But Stephanie missed the ball, and also the opportunity to score on VJ's blind side.

VJ's Josephine was then denied by a fantastic save by the YJ keeper, and at the other end, a final-minute free hit was awarded to YJC from which Jocelyn took a slap shot that was on target, but good covering from VJ's #16 prevented YJC’s second goal in the opening period.

The second period saw the same voracity in shots by both teams. YJ's Stephanie's shot from a free hit deflected off VJ's top post, while VJC's Veronica passed the ball back to #20 Therese for a shot that went high.

It was VJC which once again took advantage of a YJ lapse in defence. #7 passed the ball to an unmarked #11 Melissa for a shot into YJ's goal, bringing the score to 6-1 in favour of VJC.

YJC continued pursuing their attacks, and #26 Nur Syamimi took a shot that barely missed the top left corner of the VJC goal. Their persistence finally paid off in the 24th minute when #5 took a wrist shot from half-court and scored YJ's second goal.

VJ's Melissa scored her third of the game with a grounder at the 26:42 mark. The score was now 7-2 to VJC.

The third period had a series of close shaves for both teams; YJC #12 Ting Hui’s backhand shot hit the side post of VJ's goal, while Harilyn had 2 consecutive shots which hit the post.

But it was VJC which got on the board again when Melissa received a pass and took a wrist shot to score her fourth goal in the game with less than 7 minutes to play.

YJ's #14 then had a shot during a YJ free hit, but her attempt barely missed the top corner.

By then it was too late for YJC to draw level, with the goal difference being too huge and the YJ players displaying slight signs of fatigue. The final whistle blew, indicating that VJC were off to the final, while last year's runners-up were left to vie for 3rd place instead of the champion's trophy.

Throughout the game, VJC had a lion’s share of possession, allowing them more passes and attacks. YJC, on the other hand, had blind passes which went astray. Nevertheless, credit to them for continuously executing full-court pressure, as well as well-planned and executed free hits which just did not end up at the back of VJ's net.
