St Andrew’s JC defeat Yishun in National A Division Basketball Championship

Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, March 30, 2009 – St Andrews Junior College (SAJC) defeated Yishun Junior College (YJC) 44-27 but one of its players suffered a bad injury during the last quarter of their A Division Basketball Championship game.

SAJC dorminated early, pulling ahead with a considerable 23-7 lead over YJC by the end of the first half. In the 3rd quarter, YJC scored eight points but they missed too many chances and allowed SAJC to extend their lead by 19 points by the end of the third.

With a final victory for SAJC almost a foregone conclusion, the fourth quarter was marked by a bad collision between Ong Wen Qian (SAJC #5) and a YJC player which left the SAJC player bloodied.

According to an umpire, Wen Qian couldn’t avoid the YJC player who had stopped right in front of him. This caused him to fall over the YJC player and land face first on the court. He was hospitalised as a result and our hopes for a speedy recovery go out to him.
