River Valley High, Tuesday, February 7, 2009 – Jurong West Secondary beat West Spring Secondary to make it through to the second round of the B Division West Zone Netball Championship. Despite finishing level on points with Unity and West Spring, a superior goal difference of 16 gave Jurong West the edge.
Nan Hua High, Bukit Panjang Government High, Methodist Girls’ School and Nanyang Girls’ High – who finished in the top four in the 2008 West Zone Championship – all qualified for the second round as well. Except for Nanyang Girls’ who finished second to River Valley High in Group C, the rest topped their group.
A surprised victory against Tanglin Secondary has given Yuan Ching Secondary a place in the second round as runners-up in Group B.
Kranji Secondary are the dark horses in this year’s championship with strong performances that limited their opponents to less than 10 goals, except against Bukit Panjang Government High. Kranji finished runners-up in Group D.
These 8 teams will start their battle for a spot in the semi-finals next Monday, February 23rd, at River Valley High.
