Peirce Secondary School, Wednesday, February 11, 2009 – St. Joseph’s Institution overcame a resilient Catholic High 3-1 in their boys’ B Division South Zone Table Tennis semi-final encounter.
Yeo Jin Peng of Catholic High played Zeng Xiang Rui of SJI in the first singles match. Jin Peng took the game to his opponent but despite putting in a good fight, he lost the first set 12-10 as the China-born SJI player proved too good for the Catholic High B Division captain.
Catholic High did well in the first doubles and cruised to a 3-0 win.
In the second singles, however, Tan Yi Zhong of Catholic High was unable to overcome the heavily favoured China player Hong Bin as he lost three sets to one.
A string of unforced errors cost Catholic High the second doubles which they lost 3-2.
