Eight more teams remain in the game after just one group stage round in the B Division Girls Softball Championship. This upcoming second group stage is where the big four semi-finalists for this year will be determined.

So far, the four winners for Groups A, B, C and D are Tanjong Katong Girls’ School, Nanyang Girls’ High, Fajar Secondary and Nan Hua High respectively.

Tanjong Katong swept past their less illustrious opponents easily in the first round, with definitive margins of no less than eight.

Nanyang Girls’ finished off New Town and Dunman High clinically, but had some difficulty scoring against Crescent Girls' School. They did, however, have a solid defence and came away 4-0 winners to top the group.

Fajar Secondary fought hard against Raffles Girls' School for the top spot in the last matchup of the group. With the help of a poor first inning performance by the Raffles’ pitcher and tight defending by the Fajar fielders, Fajar eventually took the deciding game 8-6.

Nan Hua High had a relatively smooth round, except for their matchup against Methodist Girls’ School. It was a very close fight but Nan Hua managed to come up tops, beating MGS by just one run.

Four other second placed schools – Orchid Park Secondary, Crescent Girls’, RGS and Methodist Girls’ School – have also qualified for the second round.

Round Two will kick off this Tuesday, 16th February, with Fajar, Nan Hua, Orchid Park and Crescent Girls’ placed in Group X. Tanjong Katong Girls’, Nanyang Girls’, RGS and MGS are placed in a tougher Group Y lineup.

The winner of Group Y will face the first runner up of Group X and vice versa in the semi-finals on 3rd March.
