CCAB, Sunday, Feburary 1, 2009 – Theresians beat Victoria Junior College 3-2 on penalty strokes after their 3rd/4th placing match ended 2-2 at full time in the girls’ U-21 Hockey Championship.

Both teams were evenly matched but the deadlock was broken in the 25th minute when Theresians scored to go 1-0 up.

However, VJC’s Sijing equalised when she swept the ball into the far left post through a penalty corner to make it 1-1.

In the second half, a VJC counter-attack saw them sweep upfield quickly and bearing down on the Theresian goal, outnumbering the keeper four to one to score the inevitable goal to make it 2-1.

Minutes later though, the Theresians came back to equalise through a penalty corner. Without further scoring, the game went into extra time but it did not yield a winner.

Eight penalty strokes later, Theresians secured third place, outlasting VJC 3-2.
