Clementi Sports Hall, January 30, 2009 – Jurong West Secondary edged out Jurong Secondary 24-23 in their opening game of the girls’ B Division West Zone Basketball Championship.

Surrounded by supporters from both sides, the first quarter started with the Jurong West #6 scoring all six points to give her team the early lead. Jurong came back with their #14 hitting a 3-pointer and Jurong managed to finish the quarter leading by one point.

In the second quarter, Jurong West started to fall apart without their key player Meng Si (#12) and too many turnovers saw them score only three points. Jurong pulled ahead to end the second quarter leading 14-9.

In the third quarter, despite having Meng Si (#12) back on court, Jurong West continued committing too many turnovers, managing only three points. Jurong extended their lead to eight to lead 20-12.

The fourth quarter saw a resurgent Jurong West as they started to make a comeback. By the last minute of the game, Jurong were leading by only one point, but turnovers came back to haunt Jurong West. Jurong regained possession and went on to win the game 24-23.

In an earlier game, Nanyang Girls’ High beat New Town Secondary 51-31.
