Clementi Sports Hall, January 10 and 17, 2009 - Denise Fu, 12, of the Y Sports fencing team won the bronze in the Women's Foil category at the annual Novice Fencing Championships.
It was an open category for anyone with less than three years experience and who had not won medals in individual events.
"I thought that I would not stand a chance against them," Denise said.
The Y Sports fencing team also finished top four in the women's foil team event, an achievement considering that this was the team’s first-ever team event.
Apart from the medal, they took home memories and deeper friendships within the team.
