CCAB, Friday, January 30, 2009 – A late burst of scoring by Catholic High centre Goh Kong Tat in the fourth quarter ensured a win by a big margin in their second match of the first round. Kong Tat scored a game-high 27 points to lead Catholic High to a 93-46 win over St Andrew’s Secondary.

The Catholic High big man, standing at 1.91m, used his height to good effect throughout the game, pummeling his shorter opponents inside the paint for easy baskets. He also converted a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the game.

Catholic High had started the game brightly when point guard Johncelin Khoo converted two consecutive lay ups within the first minute of the game. They led comfortably by an 18-5 margin at the end of the first quarter.

Yet the St Andrew’s team led by coach and national player Wong Wei Long threatened a comeback in the second quarter when they dominated the Catholic High bench players. A flurry of baskets by the Saints restricted Catholic High to a 35-21 lead after the first half.

But Catholic High reasserted their authority by fielding its starting five players in the third quarter.

They then cruised to a 93-46 win on the back of strong inside play from Kong Tat and quick breakaway baskets by captain Jabez Su.
