Jurong Secondary sweep aside MacPherson in U-16 volleyball

Hougang Sports Hall, Thursday, October 30, 2008 – West Zone volleyball powerhouse Jurong Secondary swept aside MacPherson Secondary 2-0 (25-1, 25-4) in a Group C Match at the 2008 National Under-16 Girls Junior Volleyball Championship.

Jurong started strongly and soon jumped out to a 10-0 lead on the back of consistent serving by Krystal (Jurong, #8). This forced MacPherson to call for a time out to stem the Jurong tide.

However, the timeout did little to stop the Jurong rampage and the West Zone giants hit 21 points before MacPherson came up with their first point.

The MacPherson #11 tapped a ball towards Jiahui (Jurong, #11) at the right end of the 3m zone and the latter stumbled and failed to receive the ball to give MacPherson their one and only point of the set. The Jurong #11 then served the rest of the game out to wrap it up 25-1 for her team.

The second set saw Jurong #5 start on the serve and MacPherson still struggling to find ways to deliver Jurong a blow. Jurong hit a 9-0 lead before their #5 served a ball out of bounds gift MacPherson one point.

MacPherson then managed to score a few points due to some Jurong errors but this was to be short-lived as Jurong quickly wrapped up the set 25-4 with the final point scored by the opposite spiker.
