Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Friday, October 10, 2008 – Republic Polytechnic (RP) rebounded from their 0-2 loss on Wednesday to Nanyang Polytechnic to overwhelm Singapore Polytechnic (SP) 6-0 in their second match of the women's Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Floorball Championship. With this, RP have a 1-win-1-loss record (1-1) while SP are 0-2 for the championship.

RP, last season's runner-up, started the game with plenty of promise as they had the first opportunity of the game. They continued to maintain possession and it wasn't long before they scored two goals in quick succession. An RP player ran around the goal and attempted to cut the ball back to another RP player. However, the ball hit an opponent and it rolled pass the goalkeeper and into the goal. The next was scored quickly thanks to great passing around the SP goal and was eventually finished off by RP #10.

RP continued to dominate the game as they kept possession of the ball. The RP attacks seemed to be endless for SP as shots rained on their goal and the SP players were unable to break out of their own half. The end of the first period couldn't come fast enough for SP and they were lucky not to be more than two goals behind.

The second period was much more balanced as SP held off RP. RP still started on the attack, though, as they forced a fine save from SP goalkeeper with a stinging shot. Chances came far and in between even though RP maintained possession.

RP captain Ou Mei Wen (#6) deserved mention as she seemed to be everywhere. It was she who made another break through for RP to make the score 3-0. Thanks to her, RP were able to maintain the lead while SP struggled, having a hard time getting their passing together. RP finished the second period leading 3-0.

Much of the same followed in the final third. RP #22 scored an early goal after collecting a rebound from a fumbled shot. Just like the first period, shots were raining down on the SP goal. Six minutes on, RP #18 scored and was soon followed by RP #6 with another to bring the score to 6-0. It was only during the last five minutes that SP managed to get their passing game together and released some weak shots at RP's goal, which were easily collected.

With their first win under their belts, RP will take on the high-flying Combined ITE team on Tuesday (14 Oct). SP on the other hand will have the daunting task of taking on the home team Ngee Ann Poly on Thursday (16 Oct). Good luck!
