St. Andrew’s Junior College, August 30, 2008 – Republic Polytechnic made the U-21 Cup Final but fell to Kajanadit School of Thailand in the Under-21 girls’ category at the 2008 Blacks Midnight 7s, a two-day rugby event last month.

Six teams vied for honours in the category and Singapore were represented by four teams. Perhaps inspired by the table tennis heroics at the Beijing Olympics, the Republic Polytechnic were represented by two teams named RP Ping and RP Pong while ITE Alumni and Black Babies were the other two local teams.

Kanjadit School of Thailand and Vientiane Lions of Laos were the foreign teams and showed outstanding quality when action got underway. However RP Ping showed Singapore girls don’t just come in sarong kebayas when they did enough to hold the Vientiane Lions to a 5-5 draw in their 10-minute game and eventually finished runners-up to Kajanadit School in the Cup final.

Cup Champions – Kajanadit School
Cup Runner Up – RP Ping
Plate Winner – Vientiane Lions
Plate Runner Up – Blacks Babies
Bowl Winner – ITE Alumni
Bowl Runner Up – RP Pong
