Hwa Chong Institution recently lost a game 52-53 to Woodlands Ring Secondary which cost them their C Division campaign. A last second 3-pointer by Aldric Hu of Woodlands Ring was ruled good even though time had run out. As we understand it, the appeals committee did not allow the evidence you see below to stand because there was no agreement that any picture or video evidence would be used in the case of a dispute.

About that 3-point shot…
Actually the commitee should really look into the matter again. How can they not accept the evidence even if it is so clear?
It really isn’t about rules or agreements whether they accept the evidence or not, it’s really about the game. Everybody makes mistakes. But if the blunder by a referee causes a team to lose a game, they should at least let the team go into Nationals second round since I already posted the evidence. What’s so difficult to give a team their rightful victory? So a team with ballers full of fight just get kicked out. Just like that? Doesn’t sound like basketball to me.
Basketball is about the game, there has to be rules, but such rules that do not accept even the evidence of a victory are a little too strictly enforced. I’m sure many people will agree with me.
I’m not putting the full blame of the loss on the referees, I’m just saying that baasketball doesn’t work like that. I admit that our last quarter were full of blunders that costed us the lead.
But I have to say that although it is really a sad thing that we can’t go into the next round, we will again have another chance in the future. Although we did not manage to make a successful appeal, we just need to know that we tried our best and we won in spirit. We lose with pride and will try harder next time.
if you need good calls by the referees to win the game, maybe you should quit basketball and join other competition where this kind of situation wont happen.
lol told you all normally protest wont be successful one liao -.-
I think BAS or the relevant authorities should seriously look into this matter. While it may be true that referee’s decision are final, however, since there is an outstanding appeal from HCI’s side, and with the irrevocable evidence shown, the appeal of HCI should have been successful. I acknowledge that people do make mistakes. However, it is essential that we learn from our mistakes, and if possible, try to correct our wrongs, before moving on with a dignified lesson learnt. I believe that the appeal should be reviewed. And for the issue of non acceptance of pictorial, video evidence, in the first place, I do not think that there is such a policy in place which discounts the validity of evidence, of such nature. It is really “backward”, imho, that with technology which can aid us in achieving more accurate judgment call, we choose to ignore them and still persist in upholding our “erroneous” personal judgment.
yeah i noe no games are fairly played.
i agree with tat.
but i am sick of hearing tat.
i tink you are too?
cos of the refs multiple mistakes, ppl have to defend for them.
come on la, no game is perfectly fair.
just respect the referee’s call, even if they had make a mistake.
instead of protesting, maybe you guys should learn how to offend and defend properly.
-.-
if the evidence isn’t accepted, then what other evidence do they expect
hey hey this is really pathetic on the part of the organization. THE EVIDENCE IS THERE and yet i cannot believe that there are excuses that even exist which can possibly hold off hci’s argument, ESPECIALLY with such a blatantly obvious picture. NOT ACCEPTING PICTORIAL OR VIDEO EVIDENCE BLAH BLAH BLAH is just total crap and is an illogically profound act of blasphemy!! This just reflects how EXPERTLY and PROFESSIONAL singapore’s management in issues like these are. And what grounds do people who choose to defend the organizaton have? “oi! u try being a refree urself la!” or “the referee’s decisions are final!”. IMO, i think that all this is just a lame excuse for their total undoubtable incompetency. If a competition or event is to be carried out, isn’t it just logical that right-minded referees and managing teams who qualify for the standards(no need to talk about proffessionalism here) are sent to ref and judge the matches? It does not help in any way and in fact, it paints Singapore’s basketball commitee and further on, Singapore’s SPORTS commitee as a laughing stock who SERIOUSLY need a revamp in its system. if systems like these are not dedicated in doing a good or even a fair job, why even bother?
wow. the REFS just CAN’T ADMIT THAT THEY ARE WRONG? i mean YOU SHOULD ADMIT YOUR MISTAKES, OWN UP. DON’T BE SO PROUD LA.
so what if there was no agreement that any picture or video evidence would be used in the case of a dispute? it was all from the start of the ref’s fault, and its def unfair to the teams who should have won it. singapore refs are screwed up
i think some people need acuvue contact lens to see the youtube video properly
i think de ref say it is counted not wrs even senior ref make so serious mistake.
Didnt u read properly, It wasnt agreed in the 1st place that pictorial evidence or video evidence can be used in a dispute because singapore dosent use buzzer beater machines to check whether the shot had gone before buzzer so refrees decision is final.
But on 2nd thoughts, BAS would be sacking some refrees since this evidence is shown, and to retrain their refrees again, that’s one thing we can all look out for, well it’s a good game for wrs, even though it costed HCI’s c’div, but i am sure hci lost with pride. 🙂
even if WRS deserved the win, they should have the lsot. there’s a video. 0 seconds. 3 point scored AFTER buzzer. Points counted?
WAHLAO! HCI very kelian siah. nt successful appeal. i feel tat the appeal shld have succeeded siah.
i felt the same way as you guys too, but i was there at the match, and when i thougtht back, i think that WRS deserved the win. i support HCI too. ):
woah woah woah, not in front of you, the evidence hidden away, cannot see it. my eyes also got problem, cnt see th evidence.
maybe we need to close our eyes and pretend nothing happened.
i think they want evidence in th form of pictures tht can be seen with eyes closed, and sound tht can be heard with ears closed. or i think unless th wrs person admit to th committe tht th shot doesnt count thn they believe.
serious the refree suxs man
but pops rite this is singapore the standard u know i think i know y they dont wan to admit it as it would prove that they are wrong
exactly.wad other evidence do they wann?
its so clear alr.
do you wann the whole video to be posted or sth?
Lets say a word of gratitude to the committee.
Thanks a lot.
Once again its been proved that Singapore basketball is completely screwed.
Not bad, the evidence is right in front of them and they still could say its not permitted.
What sort of evidence were they expecting? If its not video nor pictures, great, lets find another form of evidence.
Any ideas on the other forms of evidence they want? Isnt video/picture evidence the most practical evidence?
Nevermind, its singapore basketball you know.
