National Inter-School A Division Boys Floorball Championship: Tampines Sports Complex, Wednesday, July 16, 2008 – Both Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) and Millenia Institute (MI) were enduring bad runs this season – both were without a single win. Both teams were now meeting each other for the final match of the season and were desperate for a win. In the end, it was tough luck for NYJC as MI eventually edged them out with a 6-3 win.

Within two minutes of the first period, Muhammad Nadzir (#10) opened the scoring for MI by sending a spectacular shot into goal. Not to be outdone, NYJC managed to equalize at 8:50 with Nicol Lee (#7) volleying into the back of the MI net. The period was marked with loads of near misses and wasted opportunities but MI finally managed to take the lead again when Muhammad Fadil (#15) found an opening at the 11:18-minute mark to make it 2-1.

Not discouraged, NYJC continued in their pursuit to equalize in the second period. They were rewarded in the 07:34min when the NYJC #33 knocked in a goal after receiving a pass from his teammate to make it 2-2. It was like a game of tug-of-war, with both side not willing to bulge. Due to a stroke of luck in the 11:09min, MI Muhammad Nadzir (#10) managed to tap the ball in during a goal melee that confused both goalkeeper and players alike.

Carrying the 3-2 lead into the third period, Muhammad Redzwan (#17) increased the MI lead by whacking in a fourth goal in the 08:21min to cheers from the MI team. With less than five minutes left, a foul by an NYJC team allowed MI a power play opportunity. Taking advantage of the numerical advantage, Muhammad Fadil (#15) smashed in a goal in the 13:12min to make it 5-2 for MI. Just seconds later, Fadil continued his scoring streak by banging in another goal for a 6-2 MI lead.

Although NYJC Ong Wei Xiang (#9) managed to close the gap in the 14:20min, it was way too late as the game ended forty seconds later 6-3 in favour of MI.

It was a brilliant game with both sides giving their best and never backing down. Although both sides didn’t have a good run this season, their potential showed during the match and we are sure that they will come back stronger next year.
