Turf City, Saturday, July 12, 2008 – The Whites beat the TPiranhas 5-2 in an Under-23 Youth in Touch League final last Saturday.

Both teams started off with strong intent with their respective defences standing firm. In term of quality, both teams were equally impressive in attack and defence, and it would have to take a moment of magic to break the deadlock. This moment duly arrived when the Whites #8, #5 and #3 combined well in a mesmerizing passing movement to score the first point of the match. TPiranhas, momentarily stunned by such a slick passing move, did not recover in time and allowed Whites a second point to go 0-2 down.

The second point jolted the TPiranhas back to life and they reduced the deficit with a fine solo attempt by their #7 that seemed effortless. There was a period of when possession changed hands between both teams and eventually it came down to the Whites again, when their #3 scored an easy point after showing good awareness to take advantage of the messy defensive formation by the TPirahnhas. Both teams walked off with the Whites leading 3-1 at the half.

At the start of the second half, the TPiranhas Reds again crafted another goal through their impressive #7 who went on a mazy run from one corner to the opposite touch line to make it 2-3. This well-earned point injected confidence throughout the Tpiranhas and they kept majority of the ball possession. While the Whites had several brilliant solo runs by #7, it was always the final passes that let them down and cost them touchdown opportunities.

When it seemed like the TPiranhas were about to equalise, the Whites scored again, thanks to a good combination of passes that was finished off by their #7 again for them to end the game 4-2 winners.
