Once in a while, someone will come in to say something nice about Red Sports. We are grateful. Then, once in a while, someone will come in to take a bite out of Red Sports, or specifically, me. So here, for everybody to see, is the lecture I got for not covering the plate final in person:
Said jjcian: “First of all, I am not a rugger. I am just unhappy that it took so long for this story to be up. But since it's up, I thank Mr. Ng Cheng Cong. But you les, you haven't been helpful at all. My school's ruggers played hard and played well to get into the Plate Finals. I believed they deserved recognition way earlier than the Cup Finals. However, the Cup Finals were reported just a day after their match and it took 17 days to report our match. The story was also covered by you, and this raises a question. Why weren't you there at the Plate Finals? It may be just a PLATE final to you, but for our ruggers and cj ruggers, it meant a whole lot more. So can you imagine the pain, coupled by the lack of recognition, our ruggers felt? I am a close friend of one of the ruggers, and I was told by him that he felt that the Plates are not taken seriously at all. And that after all the injuries suffered by both teams during the run to the Plate Final, he thought that we deserved more credit. So I believe I'm speaking on behalf of the whole JJ team and the CJ team.
Lastly, I think you should not treat us like small children. "Next year I'll be telling the volunteers to go cover another game/sport to save themselves the abuse." That sentence sounds like a petty comeback and we're not buying it. As this is only a Plate Final, I dare you to try the same move on the Cup Final. Try waiting a long time before publishing. I guarantee you will get flamed, possibly worse than this.
Thank you and don't try and think of another comeback.”
This comment is with reference to the plate final between Jurong Junior College and Catholic Junior College.
So this guy (or girl) thinks I should be at the rugby plate final regardless of whatever else I may have to do on that day (for the record, I babysit my son every Friday afternoon, and the plate final was on a Friday afternoon). Even if I was not, and was at another sports event, jjcian thinks I owe it to the JJC rugby team to be there.
So what do you guys think?
I was just informed by another ardent mom supporter abt the controversy.
Frankly, I havent the time to peruse all comments posted, but feel compelled to share my sentiments.
I was NEVER a cyber-person before April this year and could never understand why my children spend so much time online.
My only gripe abt Redsports is that you people have done such a great and interesting job that now, you have gotten me ‘addicted’. ( I may need rehab to get back to my pre-redsports routine )
Now, my children dont understand that of me.
In essence, this site has given readers a platform to air their views, most times constructively.
However, in this instance, someone has taken a personal jibe at Les.
To JJCian : Never feel marginalized or read negatively into any situation.
There is always a reason. Be appreciative of what we have and
perhaps you contribute to what you feel is lacking.
Les CANNOT be omnipotent and omnipresent.
With his very limited resources, he has done marvellously well.
I feel the coverage and work done is amazingly interesting and wide, and Les and his voluntary editors are worthy of recognition themselves.
So Les, like i said earlier, Dont take to heart comments from those whose fontanelle probably hasnt fused. ( Now u understand )
There are many, many more for you than against you.
So keep it up and your efforts are appreciated.
this website is great so if u are the only one who doesnt like this website den stop visiting it because if u haven notice you are like the minority.
rugby is a dumb game. haha
PLATE RUGBY = 2nd GRADE RUGBY
u see some 2nd div soccer being broadcasted over a premier league match jsut cause of some ardent fans….NO
I fully agree with all the above comments. Redsports had done exceptionally well to keep all of us updated on what’s happening in school sports – something that we seldom get in New Paper or Straits Times. In fact, the photographs capture the facial expressions and fighting spirit of our young boys and girls. Well done, Redsports. I logon to your website at least once a day.
JJCian,
The tagline is “You send it, we post it” . This is site is run by a majority of volunteers and part timers. The A Div season, not just rugby, happens in the same time frame, and I doubt even SPH can cover what RedSports s covering.
Instead of complaining, i suggest you do some voluntary work and contribute to the site.
RedSports does not owe you anything. However, I must say that you are a true product of the system. A true Singaporean. A whiner. Get a life!
Well done Red Sports!
hello JJcian.
i think you should not disgrace your school by posting such a wilful and irresponsible comment on uncle les. look at yourself. you said your rugby team played hard. but i think everyone else played as hard or even harder. so what right does it give you to demand recognition for your school’s rugby team. what makes you think this website is OBLIGED to cover events and post to-the-second updates everyday. as said earlier most of the redsports team have day jobs to earn their living. you on the other hand do not seem to understand that people have other priorities in life. so what if uncle les takes 17 days ? so what if he doesnt cover your plate final at all? so what so what so what? Furthermore, from a non objective point of view, it is true that because it is “just a plate final” thats why people are less inclined to hear of it. think of it this way, how often do you see reports of the 2nd division in the premier league on the papers. for the fact that they are less recognised and popular, people demand less of their coverage. it is a simple fact of life. so wake up from your post secondary blues and get a hold of yourself. THANKYOU.
During the time when I was JC going age (which was way before the current JC students were born), there was only Cup final. In those days (before Computer came about), we could get LOCAL SPORTS event schedules and results in the local newspaper. We were even shown a delay weekend full telecast on television for the Schools Rugby Finals. However, in today’ s newspaper, you get mostly event schedules and results from most other countries except Singapore. Try reading the Straits Times sports section, you get Scoresheet from overseas sports events. I am very interested in local sports especially school sports and enjoy reading Red Sports. I am not very internet savy and don’t really know how internet works. So imagine my surprise that all staff of Red Sports are part timers. I think the local sports coverage is better than most News paper. Thank you RED SPORTS.
JJcian
Theres a saying that goes…
“If you have an issue, grab a tissue”
Keep up the good work Les ! Cheers!
Yo Les!!!
My congratz to you for putting up the comment by the JJCian…
JJCian,
you owe the Red Sports team, BIG TIME!!!
especially Les himself!!!
Did anyone have to pay to subscribe to this webbie???
Or am i the only one who does’nt pay???
Get out of your fantasy world into the REAL ONE!!!
Hi JJCIAN,
Your comments just miror the attitude that majority of the youth have in singapore today. Why do you think that YOUR JJC rugby team NEEDS recognition. I promise you one thing there are many sec and jc CCA teams that are most probably working a lot more harder then your rugby team and they do not YEARN for coverage like what you are doing
Seriously you should be ashamed of yourself. As usual you will not have the GUTS to say your name and who you are.
Anyway live with it cos YOU GUYS ARE NOT CHAMPIONS !!!!!!!!
Even in singapore papers, Sports that win only get coverage . There are many NSA that train hard and dun win but get no coverage and un like you , they just keep on working harder cos they have passion for the game.
Uncle Les is doing all this for free – of course there will be hiccups here and there but you know how many school children and even teachers can benefit from the use of this website…….
you really are a disgrace to JJC and even worse to JJC rugby.
IF i were you i woudl have taken this issue offline and settled it.
Seriuosly GROW UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once every so often you get a poster who bashes anybody else who does not meet his perceptions or pander to his arrogance. Such a person is wrought with self conceit but will quickly be put in his place by the public forum. That is why freedom of speech provides its own check and balances and the people’s court is very decisive. In posts overseas whether in websites hosted by newspapers or other interest groups, the editor normally reserves the right to censure posts that are ethically or morally questionable. Some websites even allow fellow posters to press “ignore” buttons on posters that they consider offensive.
Readers, again, i wish to stress that this is the only opinion of a childish person. Please dun take it that the whole jjc thinks this way. Our students are more mature. Just some rotten eggs out like this one that stands out.
You should have chosen another mask to hide your identity instead of JJC-ian because you’ve not only disgraced yourself but your school.
“Thank you and don’t try and think of another comeback."
Hey jjcian.
You had time to type out a 299words comment while what we are asking is a report that contain 100words. If you spent more time concentrating on the game and writing down notes while you see me holding my camera photographing the match, i believe you would possibly come up with a 1000 word article which i would gladly credit it to you to tag along with my photos.
Honestly speaking, my language isnt fantastic, maybe i would say its not good at all. I hate writing reports but i like to cover events. Even writing captions for the photo will take me quite some time. Yes, Lousy. I admit, I’m lousy at writing reports. And its a fact that i take days to do up a report. You dont pay for my service and you shouldnt demand for it like a baby. Would you offer some help? Write in a report of 100words rather then a freaking childish complain of 299words.
You know what, i think you wont. Taken by the fact that you don’t even reply to your own comment left here. I bet when your friends are saying “wonder who is that jjcian that posted the childish complain comment over at redsports.sg" you would be taken back and curl up like a dried shrimp without uttering a word.
And yeah, not everybody is as polite and as understanding as Uncle Les. So maybe you would like to reflect on what you just commented and tell yourself you did something that wasnt too nice.
Oh.. you said “..and don’t try and think of another comeback"
Sorry but….. Do we need to?
honestly, i dont think LES HAS TO COVER THE MATCH. its not like he’s free 24/7 or something hello. if youre that great, cover the plate final yourself and send in the article like what he has asked people to do. its not like he wont feature your article. hello hes not superman. youre being so not understanding and demanding. its not liek redsports owe anyone anything. that great jjcian, start a redsports website yourself. you have no idea how tough it is do you. nice joke you are.
les, you’ve been great (:
jjcian, youre reading reports from redsports.sg for FREE. if you buy the local newspaper, it will be like 65 cents at least? and even so, the local newspapers do not write about school events that vividly. sometimes, they dont even talk about the results in the papers.
so be appreciative, jjcian. les is doing all of us here a darn big favour.
LOL JJCian. grow up la. hahahaha
JJcian pls dun disgrace our school like that. Its a previlage to get yr matches covered, u shoudnt be demanding them. Im also a sportsmen in jj, but i dun complain when my matches arent covered , cus i know my match is not the only match in A division. What u have did has just disgraced our entire school . You are not standing up for us, instead u are disgracing us.
Ps. readers, this is to show the public that what JJCIAN feels is not felt by other jj students, so i hope none sterotyping is done against us jj sportsmen just cause of an childish act by a childish guy/
Act your age, seriously, redsports may not be perfect, but all of us coming here does show something after all doesnt it?
