CCAB, Friday, May 2, 2008 – In the second match of the day, St Andrew’s Junior College and National Junior College played out a 0-0 stalemate in an A Division Girls Hockey Championship game. With both teams having already qualified for the second round, this match was just to determine who would finish top of the group.
Both teams played a fluid passing game with SAJC, who had the lion’s share of possession in the game, relying more on attacking down the wings. NJC on the other hand had a more direct approach to their attack.
The best chance of the game fell to SAJC in the first half when gaving broken through the NJC defence, SAJC’s forward fired a shot at point blank range. However, NJC’s keeper made a stunning reflex save with her feet to deny SAJC of a goal. Both teams went into the break without anyone being able to to break the deadlock.
The second half started in similar fashion with SAJC dominating long periods of play. NJC were content to sit back and absorb the attacks, waiting for the opportune moments to launch their counter-attacks. NJC’s forward showed moments of brilliance with her sleek dribbling skills but she often lacked support up front and she was easily contained by the SAJC defense.
In the end, neither team could produce a winner but both teams move on to the next round.
