VJC took the lead within five minutes of starting. Jie Min (#14) dribbled past the JJC defence and unleashed an unstoppable shot with her weaker left leg. (Photo 1 © Jolyn Ang)
VJC, Saturday, April 26, 2008 – Victoria Junior College beat Jurong Junior College 7-0 to qualify for the semi-finals of the girls’ A Division Football Championship.
VJC are now one step closer in their quest to regain the title they last won in 2006 and which they lost in 2007. VJC vice-captain, Wan Xin (#17), was the woman of the match, bagging four goals. Her goal tally now equals that of teammate and fellow Golden Boot contender, Pei Qi (#7). Pei Qi did not score in this game.
Despite losing, JJC displayed remarkable fighting spirit and came close to breaking VJC’s clean sheet in the second half with a shot that missed by a few inches.
VJC central defender, Bethany (#4), volleyed a corner home to bag the second goal of her season. (Photo 2 © Jolyn Ang)
JJC’s keeper was also fast to close down on approaching strikers, saving her team on numerous occasions. (Photo 3 © Jolyn Ang)
Wan Xin was denied repeatedly by JJC’s keeper, but her momentum often carried her straight into the keeper. (Photo 4 © Jolyn Ang)
JJC’s #3 looks on disappointedly. JJC is now ruled out from the fight for second place with 2 points after 3 games, and MJC’s win in their last group game before this game propelled them to 7 points. (Photo 5 © Jolyn Ang)
JJC’s keeper tells of her post-battle badges of honor whilst Wan Xin listens with guilt. Kudos to both teams for displaying exemplary sportsmanship. (Photo 6 © Jolyn Ang)
Photo 1 – Best to stand behind the goal to get the face of Jie Min.
Photo 2 – Again, would be good if we could see Bethany’s face.
Photo 3 – Nice. All the important elements of the shot are there – the attacker, the opponent, the ball. Nice composition.
Photo 4 – Nice composition with all the key elements there.
Photo 5 – Would be better to get a shot of her face.
Photo 6 – Same thing – need to see the face of the JJC keeper for this to be a stronger shot. At the end of a game, move into the field of play and get your shot. A bit intrusive I know, but if you have a telephoto lens, you can do it from a decent distance without being right in their faces.
Very nice pictures here! I like Photo 4 best, full of action, player charging in with studs up on the keeper!
JJ girls soccer team rocks to the core!
JJ KEEPER IS THE BEST 😀
