Shuqun extend winning streak with win over River Valley

Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall, Monday, January 21, 2008 – Shuqun Secondary (SQS) extended their winning streak with a convincing 2-0 win over opponents River Valley High (RVH) at a West Zone B Division Volleyball match to reinforce their credentials as a national contender.

After winning their first game with a 25-1, 25-1 thrashing of Bukit View, Shuqun were favourites to win this match as well. Word was that Shuqun did not field their main team in this match against River Valley High.

The first set did not see the Shuqun players break much of a sweat as several good serves by their setter gained Shuqun a considerable lead. River Valley tried desperately to fight back but could only manage a few points before Shuqun finished off the set 25-6.

The second set saw River Valley try to put up a resistance. There were a few good saves by River Valley but the Shuqun players were always able to receive any attacks by their opponents. Shuqun eventually overcame their resistance to win the set 25-11.

After the two wins in their previous matches, Shuqun will now face Nanyang Girls’ in a crucial match on Wednesday, January 23rd. Should either team win, they are likely to secure a place in the semi-finals. Good luck to both teams!
