Anglican High, Friday, January 18, 2008 – East Zone powerhouse Anglican High (AHS) defeated Macpherson 62-14 despite the latter putting up a strong fight. The East Zone B Division Girls match was played in front of strong home crowd support for AHS.

AHS showed their strength from the tipoff when Vanessa Tan (AHS #9) gained possession of the ball from the tip off and did a well executed lay-up to earn the first two points for her team. The rest of the first period was a one-sided affair as the AHS girls put ball after ball into the basket for an 18-2 lead over Macpherson by the end of the quarter.

The second period also followed a similar pattern. The Macpherson girls tried to grab the rebounds and drive it back to the other side. However, the AHS girls proved too strong as they scored lay-up after lay-up. By half-time, Anglican High had built up a massive 29-5 lead.

Half-time saw the Macpherson coach encouraging his girls to fight on. There were no heated words from him, but he was instead smiling and reminding his girls about the instructions he had given. Not disheartened, the Macpherson girls continued their fight against their much stronger opponents. Macpherson hit a high note in the third quarter when their #9 earned six points when she made two 3-pointers to cheers from the Macpherson supporters. However, it was not enough as AHS finished the third period leading 46-11.

The fourth period saw AHS continue their dominance. They managed to put in a total of 16 points to Macpherson’s three. The game eventually ended 62-14 in favour of AHS. Nevertheless, the Macpherson girls walked off the court with their heads held high.

The top scorer of the match was unsurprisingly from AHS. Clara (AHS #14) scored a game-high of 17 points for her team. Macpherson’s top scorer was their #9 who scored nine points, all 3-pointers. Vanessa (AHS #9) came in third with 8 points.
