Ang Mo Kio Secondary (AMK) started Round 2 of the National U-16 Boys Volleyball Championship with a match against Sembawang Secondary(SMB). It was a match that could go either way as both teams were almost on par in terms of skill level.

The first set saw both teams neck and neck as they each inched closer to 25 points. However, AMK had lady luck smiling on them as they managed to get the better of their opponents by taking the first set 25-19.

The second set saw SMB vigorously fighting back. However, the players had some difficulty in making their mark. Several of the SMB players mis-hit the ball which resulted in a few ‘out-balls’ and ‘into the net’ shots. Others were hit into the AMK block, which caused SMB several crucial points.

To add on, strong serves by AMK gave SMB a tough time in organising their attacks. A quick set by AMK setter, Thomas(#16) to team mate Chia Meng(#7) allowed AMK to inch closer to their win at 22-16. (#7) then went on to serve and gained 2 valuable points with the last serve just clipping the line to bring AMK 24-16. SMB’s coach called for a last minute time-out in a bid to break AMK’s serve. But upon resuming the game, a touch out by a SMB player sealed victory for AMK. Undeniably, SMB did exhibit strong teamwork and gameplay. But perhaps AMK performed better of the two. Nevertheless, good game guys!

Final score: 2-0 (25-19, 25-16)
