SCGS largely dominated the game as they foiled many attempts by the Queenstown girls from scoring. The SCGS players managed to intercept many balls and convert them into points. Many a time, the Queenstown girls were left chasing the SCGS girls as they dribbled with speed, skill and confidence towards the hoop.

The SCGS supporters provided the players with a morale boost with their enthusiastic cheering and screaming with every point scored. Calls of, “Defence! Defence!” kept the SCGS players constantly on their guard against their opponent.

Red Sports caught up with the SCGS coach Chiew Poh Leng after the game and asked her how she was feeling with regards to her girls’ win. Coach Chiew was quite pleased with the team’s performance and felt that they did quite well today. She also added that the team were relatively inexperienced with many of them newcomers to Basketball. Annabell, the SCGS #8 was praised for an outstanding performance in the game. This photographer particularly noticed Athena, the SCGS #15, who had an unique way of marking opponents during throw-ins.

Coach Chiew mentioned that despite today’s win, the girls have a slim chance of making it into the Top 4 after their loss to New Town Secondary in the previous match. They face Yuying Secondary next, who are touted to have very experienced players who also play in external clubs. SCGS, who now have a record of 2 wins and 2 losses, need to beat Yuying in order to qualify for the Top 4.
