Meridian’s Mahdi (in blue) tries to shield the ball from a Saint in Friday’s semifinal game at CCAB.

It was a highly anticipated match between the two titans and the match could have gone either way during normal time.

First half saw Meridian Junior College (MJC) having a good share of possession as well as a couple of shots on and off targets. St Andrew’s Junior College (SAJC), on the other hand, weren’t far behind also. They created a decent number of chances for themselves but lacked the bite upfront.

MJC’s keeper, Weiwen, punches the ball clear from an attacking Saint while his defenders look on.

Second half saw more action from both team as players ran their lungs out to try to get a goal which would have settled the game during normal time. There were more attacks from both side and it really looked like either side could win it. But alas, it was not to be. The score was 0-0 at full time. The game continued scoreless despite extra time and so it was on to penalties.

It was a battle of wits at the end of the day and a pinch of luck to determine the overall winner of that game. MJC beat SAJC 4-3 on penalties with the MJC goalkeeper saving two and the SA keeper one.

It was really an exciting game to watch and players from both teams played to the best of their capabilities and with great sportsmanship. MJ and SA have enjoyed good rapport over the years and it should remain that way for decades to come.

Best wishes for both teams in their respective matches this Thursday at the National Stadium.

MJC team celebrate their penalty win over Saints.
