In a spectacular match, the girls from Innova Junior College’s volleyball team trounced Raffles Junior College to proceed to the second round.

IJC’s Josephine Chan Griede (no.3) and Kong Jeng Huey (no.7) fired off serve after serve which simply "bounced" off their opponents’ hands. The girls from RJC defended with all their might as they tried to block IJC’s constant attacks. However, IJC managed to flex their might as they won the first set 25-11.

The Rafflesian spirit caught on in the second set as RJC managed to gain a lead over IJC. With the constant cheering of the supporters from Raffles, the confidence of the RJC players went up as they pounded the IJC side. However, the Innova girls managed to fight back and to eventually beat RJC 25-16 in the second set and win 2-0 on aggregate.

The fighting spirit of the RJC girls was commendable as they rallied each other on despite failing to send the ball back several times. Their encouragement and determination gained the respect of all the spectators. The crowd even applauded loudly for the RJC team when the final whistle blew. Words of "Good game, good game" were exchanged by the players from both teams as they shook hands after the match.

IJC now face Nanyang JC in their next first round match. Their previous win over Jurong JC, in addition to this current win, have secured them a place in the second round. This marks the first time the Innova girls’ team have entered the top eight ever since the establishment of the team 2 years ago.

Well done, girls!
