Clementi Sports Hall, Thursday, April 17, 2014 — Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) concluded their National B Division Basketball season with a 75–54 victory over Raffles Institution.

This is the second time that the two schools have played against each other. In the previous matchup, Raffles sealed the 68–58 victory to halt ACS’s three-peat attempt and clinch the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

ACS guard, Koh Jin Quan (#11), put up a stellar performance on both ends of the court. He led ACS with 21 points while Misheel Bayaraa (#6) and Sherman Seet (#10) added 15 points each. Chean Shao Jie (#6) led Raffles with 24 points.

In the first quarter, ACS opted for a full-court defensive press, which forced multiple turnovers from Raffles’ guards. ACS managed to contain Raffles’ offence and ended the quarter on a 20–3 run.

Raffles regrouped during the break and found their way through the ACS defence in the second quarter. Shao Jie (#6) was active on the offensive end, as he utilized his drives to create opportunities for Raffles’ offensive plays. Shao Jie had eight of Raffles’ 15 points in the quarter. ACS led 40–18 at the end of the half.

Undaunted, Raffles mounted a comeback in the second half to attempt to reduce the deficit. The trio of Shao Jie (#6), Justin Yeo (#10) and Danny Goh (#15) combined for 34 of Raffles’ 36 points in the half. Despite their efforts, ACS held on to post a convincing 75–54 victory, avenging their previous loss in the South Zone final.

ACS captain, Michael Palero (#7), commented, “It was great because this is our last game and we wanted to win it. We played as one today, and that usually does not happen. I think everyone did well. We know that Raffles is a strong opponent.”

Misheel (#6) added, “Though we did not reach our destination, it was a memorable journey, because the best is yet to be.”

Both ACS and Raffles have ended their seasons, having lost to North Vista Secondary and Dunman Secondary in their respective group games.
