Republic Polytechnic, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 — Northbrooks Secondary took out Loyang Secondary 6–1 in the first round of the National B Division Floorball Championship.
Amirul Azri Bin Azman (Northbrooks #15) scored a hat-trick to lead his team.
Northbrooks started out the game aggressively in the first period, peppering the Loyang goal with shots. This paid off when Amirul rew first blood, netting the rebound when a shot ricocheted off the unfortunate Loyang keeper. Defensively, Loyang could not find a way past Northbrooks. They were lucky when Muhammad Ikram (Loyang #7) pulled one back, scoring against the run of play.
The second period saw Loyang in a power play situation, as Northbrooks lost one player for two minutes due to a foul. However, Northbrooks succeeded in killing the penalty, allowing their player to return without conceding any goals. The game was frenetic in this quarter as players were diving all over the floor for possession of the ball. Amirul (Northbrooks #15) completed his hat-trick in this quarter, scoring on a long-range shot, followed by another from the left-wing on the counterattack.
The period was a defensive masterclass by Northbrooks, as Loyang found it hard to penetrate their own half. The Northbrooks players were swarming the court, preventing easy passes for Loyang. This resulted in a shutout in the period and Northbrooks closed out the game convincingly with a 6–1 win.
Northbrooks captain, Naziir (#10) said, “We did quite well today and scored quite a lot of goals. We have to improve our passing and communicate more with each other. We hops to reach the final because this is my final year in Northbrooks.”
